ATOSA is an integration partner that provides secure access to Australian Taxation Office (ATO) data. By connecting your Bright Workpapers account to ATOSA, your firm can automatically retrieve taxpayer activity statements and tax account transactions directly into your workpapers.
This article explains how to set up the ATOSA integration within your firm’s Bright Workpapers settings.
Before You Begin
To complete this setup you will need the following:
- An active ATOSA subscription. If you do not yet have one, visit www.atosa.com.au to learn about plans and pricing.
- Your ATOSA API Key, which can be generated in ATOSA to add into BrightWorkpapers.
- The “Edit Firm Settings” permission in Bright Workpapers. If you do not have this permission, contact your firm administrator.
Steps to Set Up the ATOSA Integration
Step 1 – Open Firm Settings
Navigate to Settings in the main menu and select the Integrations section. You will see the existing integration options (e.g. FYI Docs) along with a new ATOSA area displaying the ATOSA logo.
Step 2 – Enable the Integration
If no API key has been entered previously, you will see an “Enable Integration” button beneath the ATOSA heading. Click this button to open the key entry form.
Step 3 – Enter Your API Key
In the form that appears, enter your ATOSA API Key into the field provided. This is the key you received from ATOSA when your provider account was set up.
Can't find your Atossa API key? Navigate to the Taxpayer Management tab, select Manage Integration (below the user list), then click Manage and Add Integration. Enter your API key and select MyWorkpapers under restrictions.
Step 4 – Save Your Keys
Click “Save Keys” to store the API key. Once saved:
- The API key field becomes read-only and the key value is hidden for security.
- The key cannot be copied from the screen.
- A log entry is displayed: “Last updated by [Staff User] on [Date] [Time]”.
- The button label changes to “Update Keys” for future edits.
Updating or Removing Your API Key
Update Keys: Click “Update Keys” to re-open the form. The existing key is cleared and you can enter a new one. Changes are only applied once you click “Save Keys” again.
Delete Keys: Click “Delete Keys” to remove the stored API key entirely. The screen will revert to showing the “Enable Integration” button, and the ATOSA integration will be disabled until a new key is entered.
Note – Permissions
If you do not have the “Edit Firm Settings” permission, all buttons and fields in the ATOSA integration area will be disabled. Please contact your firm administrator to request access.
What Happens Next?
Once the ATOSA integration is enabled, your firm can begin importing clients from ATOSA. See the companion article “Connecting Clients to ATOSA” for the next steps.
Troubleshooting
| Issue | Resolution |
| Buttons are greyed out | You do not have the “Edit Firm Settings” permission. Ask your firm administrator to grant this. |
| Error when saving keys | Verify the API key is correct. If the issue persists, contact Bright Workpapers support. |
